hey guys, just seeing if anyone knows what might be causing this problem: the past two days its been pretty damn cold here in Flag and in 3rd 4th and 5th gear at WOT the evo starts to backfire and feels like its hitting a brick wall. my boost is holding steady when it happens, the car just sounds like a sick subaru. i think it may be fuel cut (although it's never happened before), spark plugs fouled or bad gap, spark plug wires, or injectors. any ideas on what it could be and how to know for sure? Thanks and happy holidays to all!
im telling you my car was doing the same thing yesterday and i just got on it a little bit and cleaned all the carbon build up off and it runs like a champ again but thats what my problem was its hard to say that yours is the exact same problem ya know
CRHavoc's MS3 was kinda doing the same thing. He has a piggy back ECU controller and is limited by O2 sensor in his down pipe. When the temps outside gets really cold (lower than 20 deg.) and since he doesn't have a wide band O2 sensor it will trigger a lean engine cut-out and that turns on the check engine light. It's an assumtion but it sounds like your fuel system isn't keeping up with cold dense air. A wide band O2 sensor would certainly fix this problem, that is if this is your problem.

the problem is(at least with my car wich is somewhat comparable)your air flow sensor max's out with the super-cool thiner mountain air(your turbo has to work harder to keep the same boost level vs sea level=draw more air through the sensor)and when that happens the ecm shuts every thing dowm,LOL anyone whos ever raced my on a cold night are familar with fc.the tune, + boost and altitude take the factory maf sensor to the limit,,,
fc on a wicked cold night is small price to pay i think, for some hard puLLS on a warm night lol
ya fuel cut is a dirty pirate hooker but you just deal with it and when it warms up it will pull like a champ mine i just have to clean off all the buildup from the slow cruises for it to really pull nice
