DRIVABILITY PROBLEM=BOOST LEAK 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
i have to start a thread on this because its the single most common drivability problem i find in turbo cars, some of you guys know this(or have heard me talk about it,,,many times)for those of you who dont heres a simple explination why,,,

in most turbo cars theres a pre-turbo air flow sensor(hotwire, maf, ect.)
the ecm determins the fuel ratio acording to this signal(plus many others but mostly air flow)
if theres a leak(ie couplers/clamps,bov,intake manifold gasket, fuel injector seals)a percentage of the ecm metered air is lost, but the ecm dosent know this,so more fuel, less air=running rich, under high boost this effect is greatly increased because your turbo will spool more air(through the maf=higher reading to the ecm)to keep the desired boost level, but the air is lost=running really rich
this is why atmosphere vented bov's on certain vehicles will result in rich shifts and stumling idles
a moderate leak can cause long spool time, hesitant revs,backfire/black smoke
a large leak can cause severe drivability issues like,,,lack of pressure, severe misfire on rev,no start

this is why you should check you clamp often, and try to pressure test your piping every six mounths
i have a tester,or you can build your own from home depot parts

in conclusion,if you cars running funny check for leaks first

In conclusion, you should all switch to MAP

are you serious?!boost leaks can cause worse problems in map sensor cars(ie melted turbo)you just wont notice it until its too late, besides its not that easy to convert to map sensor(totaly different type of signal),and most stock map sensors only read vacuum anyways

so in conclusion if you dont have anything smart or constructive to say keep it to yourself or take your silly comments elseware
this is a serious thread about questions or concerns on this subject if you want to talk shit theres already a thread for that

haha it may be slower but no boost leaks in superchargers

^^^i doubt it because you car is fairly new,but you can still leak pressure from your injector seals and intake manifold gasket even a loose coupler at your throttle body can affect a/f ratio,im pretty sure ss cobalts have an air flow sensor in the intake

also depends on the superchargers because not all superchargers are root types so they can create leaks just the same as a turbo car
